Meet Dr. David Helft

Board-Certified Pediatrician | Founder of Pediatric Wizards |
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Central Florida, College of Medicine

For Dr. David A. Helft, pediatrics isn’t just a profession—it’s a lifelong calling rooted in resilience, empathy, and purpose.

His journey began at just six years old, after surviving a near-fatal car accident. The care he received during that time inspired a mission: to help other children heal, grow, and thrive.

Born and raised in New York, Dr. Helft moved to New Orleans in 1992. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. In 1998 he graduated Medical School from Louisiana State University in Shreveport and, completed his pediatric residency at LSU in New Orleans in 2001. (Geaux Tigers!)

After starting his career in Titusville, Dr. Helft moved to Melbourne in 2003 and opened his own practice just a year later. By 2005, his vision became reality when he built a custom-designed, kid-friendly office—now the home of Pediatric Wizards. Every whimsical touch in the space reflects his commitment to making children feel welcome, calm, and confident in their care.

His empathy runs deep—not only from childhood medical experiences, but also from the loss of his mother at age 13, which strengthened his drive to uplift and support children facing hardship. Today, he brings that same heart to every exam room.

Dr. Helft is a Board-Certified pediatrician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and was named one of America’s Top Pediatricians. He holds hospital privileges at Holmes Regional Medical Center and serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.

When he's not in the office Dr. Helft enjoys family time with his wife, son Michael, dogs, and one dragon (yes, really).
